DEA Deutsche Erdoel subsidiary Deutsche Erdoel Mexico has assumed operatorship for three offshore blocks awarded by the National Hydrocarbons Commission Comisión Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH).

The three blocks, namely 16, 17 and 30, were awarded by CNH during the shallow water bid round 3.1 conducted in March this year.

The company, along with its partners, has now entered official contracts for the three blocks with CNH.

Deutsche Erdoel Mexico president Juan Manuel Delgado said: “Mexico has become a key country in DEA’s global portfolio. We are very delighted to now start the exploration work as operator of these blocks, together with our partners.

“The three blocks give us access to highly prolific basins and represent promising opportunities. Now, a phase of thorough and intensive preparation begins. As a first step, we will compile detailed exploration work programmes for the blocks.”

The company is planning to conduct geological and geophysical studies for Block 16 and 17, while 3D seismic will be acquired at Block 30 followed by the drilling of two exploration wells.

The remaining stakes are with Pemex Exploration and Production (40% share) and Cepsa (20% share).

In Block 30, Deutsche Erdoel Mexico has partnered with Premier Oil and Sapura E&P where the companies own 40%, 30% and 30% interests, respectively.
