Aker Solutions has acquired Norwegian engineering firm Sandnessjøen Engineering for an undisclosed sum.
The deal is expected to be complete in a couple of weeks. Aker Solutions is acquiring the company from owners Alsten Management, Maritime Venture and Rana Skipsaksjeselskap. It will increase Aker Solutions’s presence in northern Norway and boost the company’s engineering capacity for offshore projects.
Sandnessjøen Engineering supplies engineering and project management services to the oil and gas and construction industries in the area.
Tore Sjursen – head of maintenance, modifications and operations at Aker Solutions – said: "Our ambition is to double the company’s workforce from the current 24 over the next couple of years. The pace of growth will of course depend on our success in the market and our ability to recruit first-class team members, but generally our markets are strong."
Aker Solutions in Sandnessjøen will continue to be headed up by Halvard Lie, who has been managing director for Sandnessjøen Engineering. Lie commented: "We believe Aker Solutions will offer better opportunities for growth than we would have been able to achieve as an independent company."
Maritime Ventures chairman Brynjar Forbergskog said that although Maritime did not have any plans of selling Sandnessjøen Engineering, it believes that Aker Solutions will be a better home for the firm.
