Italy-based oil and gas company Eni has made a natural gas discovery at the Mamba North one prospect in Area 4, offshore of Mozambique.
Mamba North one lies in water depths of 1,690m, about 23km north of the Mamba South one discovery and 45km off the Capo Delgado coast. Eni said the well intersected a total of 186m of gas pay in multiple high quality Oligocene and Paleocene sands.

The well produced about one million cubic metres of gas a day and minor volumes of condensate during production testing, but flow rates were constrained by surface facilities. Eni estimated output per well would reach more than four million cubic metres in a final production completion configuration.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,330m and encountered a mineral potential of 212.5 billion cubic metres.
This new discovery, in addition to the Mamba South discovery from October 2011, further increases the potential of the Mamba complex in Area 4. The company estimated the total volume of gas in place in the Mamba complex is about 850 billion cubic metres.
Eni plans to drill at least another five wells in 2012 on nearby structures, in order to assess the upside potential of the Mamba complex.
