FPT, an IT services provider, has partnered with Pertamina, Indonesia’s state-owned oil and natural gas corporation, to implement advanced AI technology aimed at optimising asset inspection and maintenance.
The collaboration was formalised during the state visit of Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary H.E. To Lam to Indonesia.
Under the agreement, FPT will leverage its AI expertise to enhance asset reliability and workplace safety within Pertamina’s operations.
The initiative will deploy AI solutions developed by FPT and Pertamina Marine Engineering on offshore platforms operated by Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore Southeast Sumatra.
These solutions will utilise drone-collected data to detect anomalies, leaks and structural damage, ensuring the integrity of these critical offshore assets.
In addition, AI technology will be introduced at Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia drilling sites to monitor and enforce compliance with personal protective equipment regulations.
According to the company’s press release, this is expected to minimise risks and maintain high standards of safety, reinforcing Pertamina’s commitment to secure working environments.
FPT CEO Nguyen Van Khoa said: “Leveraging our expertise, experience and advanced AI infrastructure and ecosystem, FPT aims to drive comprehensive digital transformation for Pertamina, Indonesia’s national oil and gas corporation, while playing a key role in realising the AI goals outlined in Indonesia’s National AI Strategy 2020–2045.
“This collaboration also creates opportunities for FPT to expand our expertise beyond energy into other sectors such as education, telecommunications and agriculture.
PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental president director Ketut Laba added: “The AI-Based Monitoring and Inspection System for Oil and Gas Platforms, developed in collaboration with FPT, is one of Pertamina’s key strategies and main focuses in enhancing asset integrity and operational efficiency in offshore upstream activities.”
