ADNOC Gas has awarded three contracts totalling $2.1bn (Dh7.71bn) for the development of LNG supply infrastructure to deliver feedstock to the Ruwais LNG project in Abu Dhabi.
The infrastructure works include a LNG preconditioning plant (LPP), compression facilities and transmission pipelines.
The LPP and compression facilities will be situated within ADNOC Gas’ Habshan 5 complex, with the combined capacity to process 6.1 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. The transmission pipelines will link this complex to the Ruwais LNG facility.
A consortium comprising Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) and Petrojet secured the largest contract, valued at $1.24bn, for the LPP.
China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Company has been awarded a $514m contract for the transmission pipelines. Meanwhile, Petrofac Emirates will undertake the construction of the new compression facilities under a contract worth $335m.
These investments are not included in the capex outlined by ADNOC Gas for its intended acquisition of ADNOC’s majority stake in the Ruwais LNG project.

By GlobalDataThe project, scheduled to become operational in 2028, is part of a broader $15bn capex plan up until 2029, as detailed in ADNOC Gas’ strategy update.
ADNOC Gas CEO Fatema Al Nuaimi said: “These contract awards reaffirm ADNOC Gas’ commitment to delivering sustainable growth and maximising shareholder value. We are investing in world-class infrastructure and innovative technologies as we expand our capacity in LNG liquefaction and strengthen our position as a global player.
“The awards also underline our commitment to making strategic and targeted investments that enable the delivery of our most significant projects, allowing us to continue meeting our customers’ demands internationally.”
Upon completion, the Ruwais LNG plant is set to more than double ADNOC Gas’ current LNG production capacity to more than 15 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
The facility will feature two liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 4.8mtpa, and is expected to be the first in the Middle East and North Africa to be powered by clean grid electricity.
It is claimed that the Ruwais LNG plant will rank among the world’s lowest-carbon intensity LNG plants, using AI and advanced digital technologies to boost safety, reduce emissions and increase efficiency.
