US-based oil service equipment provider FMC Technologies has awarded a contract to JDR for the design and supply of umbilicals and reelers for intervention workover control system (IWOCS) for a field development in West Africa.
The project calls upon its experience across the spectrum of IWOCS componentry ranging from hydraulics to fibre optics, according to JDR.
The specially designed JDR IWOCs umbilicals will be deployed across nine JDR-designed reelers.
JDR claims that the company’s ability to provide the complete range of umbilicals and reelers, combined with the pre-qualification of their designs, will enable delivery against short lead times, while reducing project risk.
The project, to be designed by JDR’s in-house engineering teams, is scheduled for delivery in 2014.
The reeler packages, which will be manufactured at the company’s Littleport facility, will be tested and pre-qualified prior to deployment.

By GlobalDataJDR chief executive officer Andrew Norman said: "This contract demonstrates both the growing demand for umbilicals and reelers and JDR’s technical ability to deliver for FMC Technologies in a limited timeframe.
"We’ve had a long and fruitful relationship with FMC Technologies and I’m delighted we could partner once again on what will be JDR’s largest-ever umbilical and reeler order."
Oil and gas operators use integrated umbilicals and reelers to monitor and control subsea trees during installation and intervention activities.
JDR, which provides technology connecting the global offshore energy industry, is currently leading the development of new ‘open water’ umbilical technology that considerably reduces offshore operating costs.
