US contractor McDermott International and its joint venture (JV) partner Chiyoda International have introduced feed gas into Train 3 of the Cameron LNG project, reaching the final commissioning stage.

The Cameron LNG project lies along the Calcasieu Channel in Hackberry, Louisiana, US.

It includes three liquefaction trains with an estimated export capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG, or approximately 1.7 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d).

Last month, McDermott announced the start of commercial production of liquefied natural gas at Train 2 of the Cameron LNG project.

McDermott North, Central and South America senior vice-president Mark Coscio said: “Congratulations to everyone on the Cameron LNG project team for their continued commitment to project delivery and high-quality standards as we work toward completion of Train 3.

“Their hard work and strong safety performance have propelled us to the final train of the project and we look forward to keeping this momentum through completion.”

Cameron LNG’s partners are Sempra LNG (50.2%), Total (16.6%), Mitsui (16.6%), and Japan LNG Investment (16.6%), a JV between Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Mitsubishi.

McDermott noted that Train 3 of the project will reach initial production in the second quarter of this year.

A joint venture (JV) comprising McDermott International and Chiyoda provides engineering, procurement and construction for Cameron LNG under a contract awarded in 2014.

Last December, McDermott International Chiyoda introduced feed gas into Train 2.

In April last year, McDermott International Chiyoda also introduced gas into Train 1.

In the following month, Train 1 became operational from the Cameron LNG export project, while its commercial operations started in August following its substantial completion.

Partners in the Cameron LNG project made a final investment decision in 2014.

In the same year, the project secured US DOE approval for the construction of three LNG liquefaction and export facilities at the existing LNG terminal in Hackberry.
