McDermott International and its partners Chiyoda International and Zachry have announced the first cargo shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Train 2 at the Freeport LNG export facility in Texas, US.
The second train of Freeport LNG has recently produced its first natural gas and the latest development is an indication of the substantial completion of the train.
McDermott International North, Central and South America senior vice-president Mark Coscio said: “The ongoing momentum of this project has accelerated us past multiple accomplishments, including Train 1’s introduction of feed gas, first liquid and first cargo.
“We are well on our way toward commercial operation for Train 2. I commend the project team for delivering these results and getting us closer to substantial completion.”
In 2011, the joint venture (JV) lead Zachry engaged McDermott for the pre-FEED, followed by front-end engineering and design (FEED) works to support the project’s early development stage.
Chiyoda later joined the partnership for work related to Train 3.

McDermott noted that the second and third trains of Freeport LNG remain on schedule while LNG production of the third train is scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
In September, Freeport LNG Development raised more than $1bn to add a fourth production unit to its export terminal on Quintana Island after selecting KBR as the preferred bidder for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract for Train 4 in May.
