Cyber exposure company Tenable has formed a strategic partnership with global engineering and technology firm Siemens to provide a new solution to energy, utilities and oil and gas companies in relation to industrial asset discovery and vulnerability management.

Through Tenable’s ‘Industrial Security’ solution, the partnership aims to close the industry readiness gap in the wake of growing risk of cyber attacks against critical infrastructure.

Siemens will deliver the solution to enable companies to secure and protect their critical OT assets.

Using the solution, customers are expected to have improved understanding of where their OT assets may be vulnerable.

The companies intend to leverage each other’s expertise to help customers close the knowledge gap in terms of their readiness to protect their critical assets.

Siemens Energy industrial cyber and digital security vice-president and global head Leo Simonovich said: “Cyber attacks against the O&G and utilities sector are on the rise and growing more sophisticated and aggressive by the day.

“Cyberattacks against the O&G and utilities sector are on the rise and growing more sophisticated and aggressive by the day.”

“Passive monitoring of all assets in these systems is critical to detecting and addressing vulnerabilities before they can be exploited and lead to disruption of essential public services like electricity, gas, and water.

“With Siemens’ deep operational technology expertise and Tenable’s leading cybersecurity technology, this global partnership is uniquely poised to strengthen defences in critical infrastructure and other organisations that rely on industrial systems.”

The vulnerability detection solution is said to be suitable for industrial control systems (ICS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.

The objective of the solution is to identify and prioritise OT risks, enabling customers to ensure safety-critical production assets are secure and fully functional.

Customers are expected to have access to the information they need to assess, understand and reduce their cybersecurity risk.
