Ocean Victory

BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT), a subsidiary of UK-based oil company BP, has announced the arrival of the Ocean Victory rig to commence drilling operations in mid-May at its $2.1bn offshore Juniper gas project.

Owned and operated by Diamond Offshore Drilling, the semi-submersible drilling rig will take personnel, equipment and supplies to the offshore location.

Ocean Victory can drill to a total depth of up to 25,000ft, and in water depths of up to 6,000ft.

BP Trinidad and Tobago has contracted the rig to drill five subsea wells at the Juniper platform, and the contract is for an initial term of two years.

The Juniper field, which is located 50 miles off the south east coast of Trinidad, is the company’s first subsea field development.

"This development is an important part of the future for bpTT, because it will assist the company in meeting its natural gas commitments to the market."

With a production capacity of about 590 million standard cubic feet a day, the facility is expected to deliver first gas in 2017.
