Helix’s robotics subsidiary Canyon Offshore has secured a contract from Shell to trench and bury over 40km of pipe in 1,675m of water in the Campos Basin located near Rio de Janeiro, offshore Brazil.
The work, which is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year, will be performed at the BC-10 field operated by Shell from the DP III M / V Grand Canyon I vessel.
Canyon Offshore will use the T-1200 Deepwater Trenching System to carry out the work.
Canyon Offshore president Ian Edmondstone said: "Shell and Canyon have a long history of developing and utilising Pipeline Burial Trenching as a flow assurance enhancement tool, and we have performed numerous projects together in the past using this successful technology.
"This will be the deepest pipeline trenching project ever performed offshore Brazil and the vessel Grand Canyon I deploying T-1200 is the perfect set of tools for the job."
One of 12 coastal sedimentary basins of Brazil, the Campos Basin spans both on-shore and off-shore parts and has a total area of approximately 115,000km².
