Australia-based Searcher Seismic has teamed-up with Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) Department of Petroleum and Energy (DPE) and project partner BGP to conduct the Haere 2D seismic survey in offshore PNG.
The survey consists of 17,000km of 2D long-offset, high-resolution, broadband seismic over the Gulf of Papua.
According to the company, the BGP Explorer has mobilised for the survey project.
Searcher Seismic global sales manager Rachel Masters said Haere is a grid of quality data that will be fundamental in assisting the re-interpretation of the geology in the Gulf of Papua.
Masters said: "Deep grabens in the area are believed to contain extensive Mesozoic and Palaeozoic sediments, which may be associated with multiple unexplored petroleum systems, highlighting the prospectivity of the Gulf of Papua."
Haere will also help identify prospective structural and stratigraphic trends that can be further used to assess future detailed seismic survey designs.
