remote well control

Denmark-based Maersk Training and eDrilling in Norway have joined forces to improve drilling operations, increase efficiency of operations and reduce costs for oil and gas companies.

The latest partnership is aimed at assisting global exploration and production companies, drilling contractors, as well as services companies to help them make better drilling decisions.

They will provide well-specific drilling consultancy services, also called real-time decision support, with the help of eDrilling’s engineering and drilling software for simulator.

Services offered by Maersk Training and eDrilling will range from drilling the well and testing new technology to verifying procedures.

Maersk Training CEO Claus Bihl said: "Now we are able to assist our customers ensuring sufficient competencies are present by assessing and training the rig crews on specific wells in advanced full-scale simulators around the world, as well as practice procedural discipline in close to real-life environment.

"eDrilling’s new drilling and engineering software for simulators will enable to test various scenarios on actual wells ahead of time."

"Moreover, we plan to build on the success we had with our real-time decision support services on Wintershall’s IMSA prospect in Norway, with an estimated 19 days saved, and provide this offering to new and existing customers."

eDrilling’s new drilling and engineering software for simulators will enable to test various scenarios on actual wells ahead of time.

This helps operators to be prepared during offshore operation.

eDrilling CEO Tor Olav Schibevaag said: "The current times calls for real change, and innovative solutions and services will help us get to a state of faster, safer, and more efficient drilling operations."

In November 2015, Maersk Training opened its new offshore simulation complex in Houston, US, for training oil and gas industry personnel.

Training at the new facility will allow offshore rig crews to be prepared prior to engaging in the actual operation.
