Italy-based Eni has completed the authorisation process for development of Zohr natural gas field in the Shorouk concession, offshore Egypt.

Eni said that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has approved the grant to it by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) of the development lease.

Zohr is estimated to hold up to 30 trillion cubic feet of gas and is located in the Mediterranean Sea.

Located in 4,757ft of water in the Shorouk block, the discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 13,553ft.

Eni holds 100% of the contractor’s working interest in the block, through its subsidiary IEOC Production.

The first appraisal well of Zohr discovery is Zohr-2, which is currently in the drilling phase.

The Zohr field is estimated to lie in an area of 100km² and located in water depths of 1,450m. It has a total gas of around 850 billion cubic metres.
