Italy-based Eni has completed the authorisation process for development of Zohr natural gas field in the Shorouk concession, offshore Egypt.

Eni said that the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has approved the grant to it by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) of the development lease.

Zohr is estimated to hold up to 30 trillion cubic feet of gas and is located in the Mediterranean Sea.

"Production will be increased until it reaches a volume of 75 million standard cubic metres of gas per day by 2019."

As part of the development, production is expected to start before the end of 2017.

Following this, production will be increased until it reaches a volume of 75 million standard cubic metres of gas per day by 2019.

Eni announced the discovery of a huge gas reserve in the Zohr 1X NFW well at its Zohr Prospect in August 2015 after completing the drilling of the Zohr-1 well, which occurred within the Shorouk concession agreement.
