Kosmos Energy has made a gas discovery at its Teranga-1 exploration well in the Cayar offshore profond block, 65km north-west of Dakar, Senegal, at depths of 1,800m.

The Teranga-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 4,485m and encountered 31m of net gas pay in good quality reservoir in the Lower Cenomanian objective.

Results confirmed the extension of a prolific inboard gas fairway, 200km from Marsouin-1 well in Mauritania through the Greater Tortue area on the maritime boundary to Teranga-1 well.

In March, Kosmos made a gas discovery at its Ahmeyim-2 appraisal well in the offshore area of Mauritania and Senegal.

The well is located in Mauritanian waters, 5km north-west, and 200m downdip of the basin-opening Tortue-1 discovery well. It was drilled to a total depth of 5,200m.
