According to GlobalData’s latest report, H2 2016 Global Length and Capital Expenditure Outlook for Oil and Gas Pipelines – Natural Gas Pipelines Take Lead in New Project Announcements, the global pipeline industry is heading towards a positive growth with an expected increase of 12.9% in the total length of key oil and gas transmission pipelines by 2020.
North America will add the highest planned oil and gas pipeline length than any other region in the world over the next four years. The region is expected to witness the construction of more than 60,000km of transmission pipeline length.
More than half of the global transmission pipeline length proposed to come up by 2020 will be built in the US. India, Russia, Canada and Iran are the other key countries expected to witness construction of a total length of around 90,000km.
GlobalData’s midstream research also shows that Gazprom plans to construct more than 13,000 km of transmission pipelines by 2020, the highest among companies. It also has the highest proposed capital spending of more than US$60 billion by 2020. TransCanada Corporation and IGI Poseidon S.A also intend to spend heavily on the planned pipeline projects, with the proposed capex for the two companies totaling more than US$50 billion.
The report shows that the Iran–Iraq–Syria–Lebanon gas pipeline, followed by the West–East Gas III gas pipeline in China, and the Energy East gas pipeline from Canada are the longest pipelines planned to come up by 2020.
