Integrated geoscience company CGG has completed an airborne gravity gradiometry (AGG) survey in the Kingdom of Bahrain, on behalf of Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco).
CGG stated that this was the first commercial survey to be conducted using Falcon Plus, which is the latest system in the company's Falcon AGG utilities.
The survey was conducted over approximately 7,700km² of open exploration acreage across Bahrain’s offshore licensing blocks.
CGG prepared a data set of around 18,000km of high-resolution, low-noise AGG and magnetic information in this survey.

“FalconPlus builds on the success of our Falcon AGG system to deliver uncompromised gravity data to the petroleum exploration industry.

The data set and integrated interpretation will enable Bapco and future license holders to analyse the hydrocarbon potentiality of the area and identify prospective locations for exploration.
Bapco exploration manager Yahya Al Ansari said: “The Kingdom of Bahrain will benefit from the additional, geological insight brought by the higher sensitivity of the CGG FalconPlus data and its subsequent integration with our existing information.
"The integrated study is expected to provide a valuable platform for Bapco and our future partners to target and develop new petroleum resources in the kingdom.”
CGG will also work with Bapco to develop a comprehensive integrated study that will combine the AGG data with existing geological information.
The combined study will improve seismic imaging and interpretation of geological seismic vintages over the area.
The study will also be effective in creating velocity models that can mitigate near-surface effects and help understand the challenging Pre-Khuff section in this region.
