The Petroleum Safety Authority of Norway (PSA) has given approval to Statoil to drill an exploration well on the Gina Krog field, as well as production wells 34/11-B-6 and 34/11-B-16 on the Valemon field in the North Sea.
Gina Krog is an oil and gas field that came on stream this year. It is 250km west of Stavanger and 30km north-west of the Sleipner A facility in the North Sea.
Exploration well 15/6-14 S, for which Statoil has now secured approval to drill, will be drilled as a sidetrack from existing well 15/6-B-2.
The water depth at the location is 116m. Drilling is expected to be done in 17 days if it is a dry well and 25 days if there is a discovery.
Scheduled to begin in September, the works will be carried out by Maersk Integrator, a jack-up drilling facility constructed by Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard in 2014.
This facility will be operated by Maersk Drilling Norge.
