Peluang gas field is located in the Madura production sharing contract (PSC) in offshore East Java, Indonesia, at a water depth of 57m in the Madura Straits, which is 17km away from Maleo gas field. Santos operates two fields in the Madura PSC block, which include Maleo and Peluang.
Santos is the operator and holds 67.5% interest in the Peluang gas field, while PC Madura (22.5%) and PT Petrogas Pantai Madura (10%) are partners in the development. Peluang is the fourth operated asset for Santos in south-east Asia.
The gas produced from the Peluang gas field is used for the domestic consumers in East Java.
Peluang gas field reserves and production
First gas production from the Peluang gas field occurred in March. The field is expected to achieve a gross peak production rate of 25 billion British thermal units per day (bbtud). Its reserves are estimated to be approximately 32 trillion British thermal units (tbtu) of biogenic gas without any hydrocarbon liquids.
Discovery and development of the offshore gas field
The Peluang gas field was uncovered in 2009 with the discovery well Peluang-1 spud in February 2009 by PT Apexindo using Raniworo jack-up. The appraisal well was drilled to a total depth of 1,126m and the drilling continued until February 2013.
The Bukit Tua Development Project involves the development of the Bukit Tua oil and gas field in East Java, Indonesia.
Santos submitted the final investment decision on Peluang field in the second half of 2012. Approval for the field development was sanctioned in February 2013 and the field development was completed between February 2013 and March 2014.
For Peluang field, Santos works with local institutions and non-government organisations in arranging the JASMAS (Jaringan Aspirasi Masyarakat), a community-planning network that is used to ensure the right community participation in these programmes.
Field infrastructure and storage
The Peluang gas field includes one horizontal gas well tied back to the existing mobile offshore production unit (MOPU), which is located at the Maleo gas field. The gas gathered at the Maleo field will be transported through a 7.4km spur-line to the East Java gas pipeline for distribution to the Surabaya and Gresik gas grid. Gas from the field will be supplied at a plateau rate of up to 110 million standard.
Contractors involved
The front-end engineering and design (FEED) study of the field was conducted by Zee Engineering. The scope of the FEED study included carrying out pipeline liability from the Peluang wellhead to Maleo wellhead platform, as well as provide stability and wall thickness calculations. It also included the separation and metering facility at the Maleo MOPU for the Peluang gas stream, asingle subsea wellhead control pod and a flexible flow line jumper to the MOPU.
The onshore fabrication at the Indonesian gas field was contracted to PKP-PAL, while the offshore installation was completed by Rajawali Swiber Cakrawala.
