The top five companies accounted for 30% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Arkema filed the most 3D printing patents within the oil & gas industry in Q3 2024. The company filed 30 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 19 in the previous quarter. It was followed by BASF with 29 3D printing patent filings, PPG Industries (12 filings), and Stratasys (10 filings) in Q3 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 28% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the oil & gas industry in Q3 2024 was in the US with 28%, followed by China (15%) and Japan (12%). The share represented by the US was 9% higher than the 19% share it accounted for in Q2 2024.
