The Netherlands multinational geotechnical company Fugro has secured a contract to provide site characterisation services to support a long-term field development programme in the United Arab Emirates.
The company has not disclosed the name of the project or the operator.
Beginning in April, Fugro will undertake a host of offshore surveys featuring geophysical, geotechnical and ROV inspections backed by advanced engineering and geoconsulting studies to help inform the front-end engineering design.
The project features around 600km of pipeline route evaluation with 800 crossings, 49 jacket surveys and island offshore surveys.
In addition, Fugro’s remote data management solutions will help to garner near real-time insights into the ground conditions.
These insights, delivered through the digital platform of Fugro, will enable the client to cut down uncertainties associated with ground conditions, take well-informed design decisions on time and achieve great capital expenditure savings across the field development programme.

By GlobalDataFugro group director for Middle East and India Tim Lyle said: “We are delighted to be supporting a project of such calibre. This significant award will allow Fugro to support our client’s vision and sustainability targets whilst strengthening our commitment to in-country value by working closely with our local supply chain.”
In February, Fugro signed an agreement to buy two platform supply vessels, Topaz Endurance and Topaz Energy, and repurpose them to geotechnical vessels.
The two vessels were built in 2015.
