Poland has launched a temporary compulsory administration over Russian gas firm Gazprom’s stake in the Yamal gas pipeline system in Polish territory.
Gazprom holds a 48% stake in System Gazociągów Tranzytowych EuRoPol Gaz, which owns the 684km-long Polish section of the Yamal gas pipeline system, while Polish state companies own the remaining stake.

The pipeline, which supplies gas from Russia to Europe, is operated by Polish state-owned gas transmission company Gaz-System.
In May 2022, Russia prohibited Gazprom from supplying gas to Poland as it refused to pay for the gas in roubles.
The compulsory administration has now been introduced by the Polish Minister of Development and Technology Waldemar Buda to ensure the security of the critical infrastructure for gas supplies.
Buda said: “The establishment of compulsory management is necessary for the proper functioning of EuRoPol Gazu, including the avoidance of decision-making paralysis in this company and ensuring the security of critical infrastructure intended for gas transmission.”
