Energy infrastructure company TC Energy has collaborated with integrated renewable natural gas (RNG) solutions provider GreenGasUSA to explore the development of RNG transportation hubs.
These hubs will provide centralised access for renewable natural gas sources, including farms, wastewater treatment facilities and landfills, to existing energy transportation infrastructure.
As part of the collaboration, GreenGasUSA will be responsible for creating RNG and conditioning the gas to pipeline quality. It will then be transported to the RNG hub.
TC Energy US and Mexico natural gas executive vice-president and president Stanley G Chapman III said: “As we continue to find innovative energy solutions for current and future customers, we value strategic collaboration opportunities like this one with GreenGasUSA to transport renewable natural gas.
“We have embraced the growing role of RNG in our industry and continue to explore ways to optimise our existing US pipeline system in a collaborative, safe and sustainable manner.”
TC Energy plans to build, own and operate the RNG transportation hubs in several US states within the next four years.

By GlobalDataThe hubs will be located along the firm’s US Natural Gas pipeline system, with the first hub planned to be commissioned by the second quarter of 2023.
TC Energy said that the combination of its energy distribution network with GreenGasUSA’s experience in gas compression, compressed natural gas (CNG) transportation, and pipeline injection would further boost methane capture.
It is also expected to increase the use of renewable fuels within the energy mix.
GreenGasUSA owner Marc Fetten said: “We’re pleased to partner with TC Energy to develop these RNG hubs.
“These are key steps to making the planet greener by connecting sources of renewable gas to energy consumers that are serious about decarbonisation and displacing fossil fuels.”
