Oil and gas contracts in Africa registered a decrease of 52% in January 2022 with 12 contracts, when compared with 25 contracts in the previous month, according to GlobalData’s oil and gas contracts database.

The activity marked a decrease of 57%, when compared with the last 12-month average of 28 contracts.
Contract award activity in Africa during January 2022
Looking at contracts by country, Nigeria led the activity in January 2022 with two contracts representing a 17% share of all the oil and gas contracts, followed by Senegal and South Africa with one contract and an 8% share each.
Based on 12-month moving average, Egypt took the top spot with five contracts, followed by Angola and Nigeria with four contracts each.

Looking at oil and gas contracts by segment in Africa, upstream segment contributed the most in terms of the contracts awarded, with 10 contracts in January 2022, followed by midstream with three contracts.
Contracts by scope of work in Africa during January 2022
During January 2022, the majority of the contracts awarded were in the operations & maintenance space with eight contracts, followed by design & engineering and construction with two and one contract, respectively.
