TechnipFMC has received a subsea contract, from Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras, for the Búzios 6 field (module seven) development, in the pre-salt area.
Under the ‘large’ contract, TechnipFMC will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of flexible and rigid pipes, pipeline end terminals, umbilicals, rigid jumpers, umbilical termination assemblies, and a mooring system.
The company describes a large contract as one that is valued between $500m and $1bn.
TechnipFMC Subsea president Jonathan Landes said: “We are excited to announce this award, which demonstrates the continuing strength of the subsea market in Brazil, and our collaborative relationship with Petrobras.
“We used our deep understanding of the client’s needs to arrive at technological solutions developed specifically for the Buzios 6 field.”
The company plans to manufacture the flexible pipes, umbilicals, subsea structures, and some rigid pipes in Brazil. This will significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with the transportation of the units.

By GlobalDataDiscovered in 2010, the Búzios field entered production in 2018 through the P-74 floating production storage and offloading (FPSO). There are three more FPSOs operating at the field.
The field is expected to reach a daily production capacity of more than two million barrels of oil equivalent per day by the end of this decade.
Last year, Petrobras awarded a contract to the Saipem and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering joint venture (JV) for a new FPSO, named P-79, in the Búzios field.
The JV will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and integration of the topsides of the FPSO unit, among other works.
