Equinor and its partner Wellesley have made an oil discovery near the Fram field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The discovery was made in the Troll and Fram area by drilling exploration wells 35/10-7 S and 35/10-7 A in the Toppand prospect, located in production licence 630.
As per the preliminary calculations, the finding contains approximately 21 to 33 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, or 3.3 and 5.2 million standard cubic metres of recoverable oil equivalent.
The well 35/10-7 S identified 75m oil column in the Ness and Etive formation. This includes 68m of sandstone with moderate to good reservoir properties.
The well 35/10-7 A encountered 67m of sandstone with good to moderate reservoir quality, with an estimated 60m oil column in the Ness and Etive formation.
Equinor exploration and production west operations senior vice-president Geir Sørtveit said: “Our exploration activity is central for our ambitions at the Norwegian continental shelf. We are pleased to see that our success in the Troll and Fram area continues.

By GlobalData“We also regard this discovery to be commercially viable and will consider tying it to the Troll B or Troll C platform.
“Such discoveries close to existing infrastructure are characterised by high profitability, a short payback period and low carbon dioxide emissions.”
Drilled by the West Hercules drilling facility, the two wells represent the fourth and fifth exploration wells in production licence 630.
The two wells, which were terminated in the Dunlin Group from the Early Jurassic water depth, have been permanently plugged and abandoned.
Last year, Equinor and its partners announced a light oil discovery in the Egyptian Vulture prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
