The region’s share in the global working gas capacity is 26.8%.
Major active underground gas storage sites of Europe are Emden (Germany), Norg (Langelo, Netherlands) and Rehden (Germany).
In Europe, as of September 2021, Germany leads with an active working gas capacity of 1,326 bcf. Emden, Rehden and Etzel ESE are the major active underground gas storage sites in the country.
Italy ranks second with an active working gas capacity of 646 bcf. Fiume Treste I, Minerbio I and Cornegliano are the major active underground gas storage sites in the country.
France is the third highest country with an active working gas capacity of 505 bcf. Chemery, Lussagnet and Izaute are the major active underground gas storage sites in the country.
