Schlumberger has signed a framework contract to acquire 4D seismic data over the Aker BP-operated fields.

The company will carry out WesternGeco marine acquisition of 4D seismic data on the Alvheim, Bøyla, Skarv/Snadd and Ula fields this year.

The four-year, $30m contract will be supported by the partners on the four fields.

Aker BP reservoir development senior vice-president Ole-Johan Molvig said: “With this framework contract, Aker BP is fortifying our position as an operator with significant ambitions for growth and value creation on the Norwegian Shelf.”

Schlumberger will start the seismic acquisition campaign next month using the WG Amundsen seismic vessel.

"We use this information to make decisions about how we will further develop the field by drilling new production wells."

The 4D seismic method will require procurement of seismic data in the exact same positions where a survey was conducted earlier to enable changes in the reservoir to be compared and recorded over time.

Measurements taken by IsoMetrix technology will improve the comparison and will exhibit subtle variations in the reservoir fluids and subsurface pressure.

Molvig added: “We use this information to make decisions about how we will further develop the field by drilling new production wells, or through measures for injecting water or gas to improve recovery through existing production wells.”

Aker BP awarded the contract after completing a review of multiple bidders based on criteria that includes HSE, commercial factors and technology.
